Both units are designed to perform the same duty and the main difference is the size. Grease traps are smaller units typically installed under the sink approximately 200 gallons or below. On the other hand, grease interceptors are usually found outside the buried on the ground due to its large size: 500 gallons and up. The price and installation cost of the grease trap are significantly lower to the fact that less labor is required and can be done in less than one day. Although, small grease traps will require more service, which can be more costly in the long run. Compared to a trap, grease interceptors are considerably larger than a grease trap; nearly a size of a small car. Due to its size, they are usually found outside in buried in the parking lot. Installing a grease interceptor can be costly because of all that is involved such as excavation, plumbing, patching, etc.. Although it may be costly to install, interceptor require less maintenance versus a grease trap. Therefore, the cost benefit we be seen in the long term.
